Rent movies online is a reality, and Amazon and UK Netflix are now offering it to the public for the first time.
This is the first instance of this in the world, and it means we’re seeing the dawn of a new era for this industry.
It’s exciting to see this industry being able to take off in such a way, says Amazon chief executive Jeff Bezos.
“It’s a sign that we’ve made it possible for people to rent movies from Netflix, Amazon, HBO Go, YouTube, and other services, without having to own a device,” Bezos said in a statement.
“This is great news for the streaming services as we see millions of people now enjoying their favorite movies, television shows, and shows on their mobile devices and in their homes.”
The launch of this service is a great opportunity for us, we are thrilled to see so many people getting the opportunity to rent a movie or show, says Netflix chief content officer Doug Creutz.
“We’re seeing huge growth in streaming, but we know this market has been slow to catch up to this,” Creutz says.
“With the launch of Amazon Prime Video, we can now offer the same experience to people who want to enjoy movies or TV shows on a daily basis.”
While Netflix will be launching the service to consumers this week, there are some restrictions on what you can and can’t rent on Amazon, including movies with less than 500 episodes, shows with no more than four seasons, and the movies and TV shows that have already aired on other services.
Amazon Prime members will also be able to stream their favorite shows and movies on other streaming services.
However, the service is only available to UK residents, and will only be available for two weeks.
So you can’t sign up for Netflix here unless you’re a UK resident, and you’ll need to pay £6.99 a month for a year.
You can also rent movies to other devices using the Amazon Appstore, which you can find here.
If you’re in the US, you can sign up on the US Netflix website.
